Historical .Notes to the Lyra Germanica. By Theodore Kiibler. (Longman
and Co.)—The author is the minister of a German congre- gation in London, and his object is to tell Englishmen, with whom translations of German hymns are so popular, something of the men who wrote the originals. In form it is a companion to Miss Wink- worth's Lyra Germanica, and gives a short account of the author of each hymn and the circumstances ander which he composed it. Thera is also an appendix, containing similar notices of other German hymn- writers whose writings are to be found in other English collections. Mr. Kibler has done his work in a very plain, business-like way, and the articles are thoroughly readable, although concise.
