Bitter truth
Sir: I greatly enjoyed and agreed with Digby Anderson's article (Food, 20 Novem- ber). There is one point in it that needs cor- rection, however. We shaggy-fetlocked peo- ple never, ever mix light ale with bitter. Light ale is expensive and comes in bottles. What we mix with bitter is mild ale, which comes from a pump and is the cheapest and weakest beer. It is only mixed with bitter for economy's sake.
