By recent accounts received from Prince Edward's Island, in the
Gulf of St. Lawrence, it appears that that colony is rapidly advancing in prosperity, and will, no doubt, in a very few years become of consi- derable commercial importance. The spirit of improvement there, which is to be attributed chiefly to its local and natural advantages, its contiguity to the great cod fisheries, and its safe and convenient har- bour ( Cardigan River), renders the eastern coast an object of particular interest to those who are promoting the cod-fisheries as .a -source of advantage to the colony.
