Gazetteer of the British Isles. Edited by John Bartholomew. (A.
and C. Black.)—This new gazetteer contains, we should imagine, between thirty and forty thousand names, and, indeed, mentions, on far as we have been able to test its completeness, every name that is likely to be looked for. The information is put in a saccinct and readable form, and here, again, supplies what will commonly be wanted. Of course, it is not perfect. Not to speak of omiasions, a fault which it would be difficult to judge fairly, sonic mistakes have crept in. The market day of Barnet, for instance, is Wednesday, not Monday, as here given; the region round Worksop was called the " Dukery " or "Dnkeries," not "from the number of mansions and parks hi the neighbourhood," but from the three ducal seats, Clamber (Newcastle), Welbeok (Portland), and Worksop Manor (Norfolk). In Monken Hadley, Hadley Priory is not a "sent."
