A Bill to legalize marriage with a deceased brother's widow
was read a third time in the House of Commons on Friday, June 10th. It was introduced by way of amendment to the Deceased Wife's Sister's Marriage Act of 1907. Lord Hugh Cecil moved a new clause denying to any person who took advantage of the Bill the right to be married in church or to receive Holy Communion according to the use of the Church of England. His object, he said, was to uphold episcopal authority in a spiritual matter. He found very little support.
