Fresh - Water Algw. By M. C. Cooke. "The International Scientific Series."

(Began Paul and Co.)—Beginning with an

introduction which includes some useful chapters on "Reproduc- tion," "Alternation of Generations," "Spontaneous Movements," and "Notable Phenomena," the greater part of the volume is taken

up with an enumeration of British species. Some plates at the end of the volume illustrate the genera. We can recommend this as a useful work of reference and introduction, in saying which we must not omit the mention of a chapter on "Collection and Preservation."
