Life without soul
Sir: In his review of Christopher Mayhew's hook (4 October), Mr Quintin Hogg pays tribute to the economic thinking of Lord Keynes regarding full employment, but denies praise to any political party.
This is illogical. J. M. Keynes (as he then was) made the greatest contribution to the economic and industrial policy of the Liberal Party as recorded in the famous Liberal Yellow Book of 1928, and helped the party considerably in the 1929 general election.
Had his late father been wiser or less per- suasive, perhaps Mr Hogg would have used his intelligence and energy to help the Liberals in 1929 bring to the country the economic sanity which both the major parties lacked.
