Uniting by abuse

From Mr Robert Davies Sir: William Deedes (Books, 12 April) rightly says that George Steer features in Evelyn Waugh's Scoop. He does not add that Steer, as the correspondent of the Tuppenny, is the socialist Old Wykehamist who abuses the lower orders to encourage their sense of class solidarity.
