from Ms B. M. Cook (5 December) `Mstresses'. Ms Cook suggested, helpfully, that Ms should be pronounced 'Mistress'. Splendid! Perhaps she or some one else would now recommend a suitable abbreviation for Mistresses (or Mstresses). `Mss', presumably?
