Debts to jets

Sir: Rod Liddle is surely right to question whether debt relief can deliver an end to poverty in the world, especially in Africa (‘Make naivety history’, 12 February). Even Gordon Brown should know this. A few years ago he wrote off more than £30 million owed to this country by Uganda. In the same month the president of Uganda ordered for himself an executive jet — at a cost of over £30 million.
