T_T IS many friends on this side of the Atlantic will -L-I- have noted with interest that Mr. John W. Davis, former Ambassador to the Court of St. James's, has been adopted as the Democratic candidate by the Democratic Executive Committee in West Virginia. Those behind the political scenes in America state that Mr. Davis is too much allied with the interests of big business to stand a chance of obtaining the Democratic denomination. Be that as it may, his British friends will wish Mr. Davis a good run for his money.
