It is -said that the assailant now states that he
did not wish to= kill the: Prime Minister, but merely : wished to prevent him -opening negotiations with the British Government by frightening him: He had to be taught a lesson because he had allowed Lord Allenby to change the wording of King Fuad's speech from the throne, and had 'called the British " honourable adversaries." The 'assailant further admits, however, that he came to Egypt specially to commit the outrage. The Times correspon- dent, whose account we. have summarized, adds that it is highly -Probable that hi was incited by Egyptians in Berlin to commit this crime.
