The Treasury of American Sacred Song. Selected and edited by
W. Garrett Herder. (II. Frowde.)—Here we have nearly five hundred pieces selected from nearly two hundred American writers, including, of course, the well-known names of Longfellow, Whittier, Bryant, Emerson, Lowell, E. C. Stevenson, Bayard Taylor, T. B. Aldrich, and a multitude that are almost or altogether unknown to most English readers. We miss one fine hymn, "There were ninety and nine that safely lay," by Miss Clephane ; but the selection, as a whole, leaves little to be desired.
