3. Three consecutive little books of Blair's Mother's Catechism; -all
of which may defy criticism, for the first has run through -Seventy-five editions, and the others have been frequently re- printed. This popularity is doubtless owing to the quantity of Information they contain, the orderly manner in which it is ar- ranged, and the closeness with which it is presented. Yet, speaking theoretically, they are not books we should have thought serviceable to little children, as dealing too much in results or .matters above the comprehension of childhood. When an infant has committed one of these Catechisms to memory, it will seem to have acquired a large stock of knowledge, but it will be of words - only.
