THE OUTLOOK.

Concerning the general trade outlook. Sir Eric Geddes filar be said to have displayed caution with an undercurrent of hopefulness, and some amusement has been occasioned by his shrewd observation that, as straws showing which way the wind is blowing, the sale of cycle tyres and of first-grade golf balls had increased. These, he affirmed, were quite useful barometers showing whether people were " feeling good or bad about their petty cash." Then, taking a broader view of the whole industrial position, he referred to the signs of improvement in the country's export trade. On the other hand, Sir Eric, in common with other industrialists, could only speak with great caution as regards the world industrial outlook as a whole. And no wonder, with political and economic factors so closely intertwined.
