Eton voting song
Sir: I have not read Dr Nordlinger's book, The Working Class Tories, but does he really state that manual workers 'positively like being bossed about, preferably by peers or the sons of peers'? (12 May).
Does not the basis of respect for any employer, wherever it exists, lie precisely in the fact that he does not 'boss'? 'A servant when he ruleth' delights in doing just that. Countrymen at any rate know the difference between a request, an order (often marginal if any) and being 'bossed about.' Katharine M. R. Kenyon 1 The Drove, Twyford, Winchester
