SCOTTISH POETRY COMPETITION
We announce a Grand Scottish Poetry Competition. Messrs John Walker and Sons Ltd, the noted distillers, have with great generosity offered to donate the prizes. It will accordingly be known as The Johnnie Walker Scottish Poetry Competition THE PRIZES FIRST PRIZE: £400 plus a case of 12-year-old.Cardhu; Highland Malt Whisky and a 7" Johnnie Walker silver-plated statuette SECOND PRIZE: £200 plus a half-gallon bottle of Johnnie Walker Red Label Whisky and a 4" Johnnie Walker silver-plated statuette TWELVE CONSOLATION PRIZES of a bottle of Johnnie Walker Red Label each THE POEM The theme is to be Scotland, or a Scottish city or citizen or work of man or nature. The poem should be not more than 30 lines long and can be in any verse form, metrical or free.
THE JUDGES The judges will be P. J. Kavanagh, poet and Spectator columnist James Michie, poet, publisher and translator Ferdinand Mount, Literary Editor of the Spectator.
ENTRIES should be addressed to Johnnie Walker Scottish Poetry Competition, The Spectator, 56 Doughty Street, London WC1N 2LL and should reach us by the end of June. All entries would become the property of the Spectator/Johnnie Walker with a view to republishing a selection.
