Shelley said it
From Christopher Lush
Sir: Mark Steyn (‘It’s the demography, stupid’, 12 November) attributes the quotation ‘Poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world’ to Anatole France (1844–1924). In fact, the lines were written by Shelley (1792–1822) in A Defence of Poetry (1821).
