begins in a most cheerful manner in a lawyer's office, where the heroine unexpectedly learns that she has been left a fortune of twenty thousand a year. The plot of the book reveals some slight measure of originality in the resolve of the heroine to institute gratuitous tours on a yacht for poor ladies and poor officers. The expected complications ensue, but the story, after its exhilarating exordium, does not rise above the level of the commonplace.
