The Cane in Schools

attended a mixed elementary school from 1904 to 1911. On only one occasion was a girl caned. It was considered that the nature of her offence war such that it could only be dealt with by punishment before the whole school and that she had, in addition, forfeited all consideration due to her sex. She had been overheard to use the word 'bloody.'
