Sir: It may be true, as your correspondent writes, that there is no record of Christ having laughed (Letters, 25 March). There is, though, evidence that he had a sense of humour. As the late Lord Hailsham pointed out (in an edition of Any Questions?), for him to have described the impulsive St Peter as a ‘Rock’ was certainly a joke.
