CHRISTMAS DAY
SIR,--I should like—if it may be done without im- pertinence—to congratulate you on the article, 'All Emotion Spent,' and to thank you for it. I was surprised to find the leading article of the Spectator so sympathetic to the Christian religion, so under- standing of the unease with which many Christians regard the commercialisation and glossy veneer of the modern Christmas, and so perceptive of the relevance of the Christian faith to modern life. When I say that I was surprised to find this, I am not trying to be rude. I ant happy to find that my judgment about the fundamental principles of editorial policy was so wrong, and apologise for my stupidity.—Yours faith- fully, , .ROBERT EXON
