Yesterday week, Dr. Clark moved a resolution in favour of
Home-rule for Scotland, which was seconded by Mr. Reid. The resolution was supported by Sir George Trevelyan in his private capacity, though he declared that the Government could take no side on the matter, with which at present it would be impossible for them to deal ; but the resolution was ultimately defeated by 168 against 150,—a result received with loud Opposition cheers and laughing cries of "Resign." The Scotch Members are not likely to forget that the prosperity of Scotland dates from the Union, and that it would not be quite impossible to undermine that prosperity by undermining or in any way imperilling the Union,
