A sound comment on my observations last week on the
sweet shortage reaches me from a source that commands respect: " If only the smokers would stop eating sweets and the sweet-lovers would stop smoking, I imagine we might all be content." How true. But the trouble is that they won't. The idea of issuing coupons trans- latable into given quantities either of sweets or of some form of tobacco sounds attractive, but administratively it couldn't be worked.
