Sir: Michael Armitage (Letters, 24 June) seems to base his
argument against homo- sexuals in the military on the fact that as a young man he and his colleagues sniggered about an assumed — not proved — rela- tionship between a 'good-looking choirboy' and a 'musically inclined officer'. This is probably as good a reason as any for spar- ing gays the rigours of military life though it tells us more about Air Chief Marshal (Retd) Armitage than about the substance of the matter.
