Iraqi democracy curtailed

From William Bourne Sir: My brother, as the Governorate Coordinator for the Coalition Provisional Authority in Dhi Qar province, was responsible for authorising the local elections organised by Adrian Weale (Letters, 24 April). His reward for having shown that a level of democracy is possible in Iraq was to have his voluntary secondment summarily curtailed at the behest of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office at the end of February.
