SIR,—May I be allowed a brief word in reply to

Mr. Anthony Nutting? The result of the Blackpool Conference is in the published policy—that is all the public at large should have to consider. It may well be true that the Young Conservatives were at Blackpool noisily making themselves equal partners with their elders—amongst whom Mr. Nutting notably singles our Mr. Eden rather than his acclaimed leader Mr. Churchill—but it is most unusual for younger partners in any concern to succeed in sweeping away in two or three years the policies which their elders have pursued to their own advantage for 25 years. Frankly, neither the Liberals who are being so assiduously wooed nor the general public of no fixed allegiance will believe that the Conservative Party has undergone such a fundamental revolution until they see a real purge at the top and new policies enthusiastically proclaimed by every speaker.—Yours faithfully, C. G. COLCLOUGH.
