Sir: If Baroness Blackstone is to be nomi- nated it
seems grossly unfair to leave out Baroness Jay. Roy Jenkins and Martin Ainis come to mind, but each has the quality Widmerpool conspicuously lacks, i.e. style.
In the Fifties we chattered about who were members of the Establishment and what behaviour was U and non-U. Later on we played at finding targets to label 'camp'. To keep the new parlour game running, why not institute an annual Widmerpool of the Year Award — the prize a subscription to the Economist?
