Dr. COOPER'S Lectures on the Elements of Political Economy is
an importation from the United States. The author is the Pre- sident of the South Carolina College, and Professor of Chemistry and Political Economy. As well as the examination which we have been able to put this work to, will enable us to speak, it strikes us as a very valuable elementary production,—not taking elementary in its philosophical sense, but as applied-to instruction, and meaning a discussion of the most general and intelligible branches of the science, such as a learner should first bend his attention upon. The work is mixed up with a great deal of statis- tical information and general remark, which renders the study of it much less dry than books of this kind commonly are to the beginner.
