ARMY RECRUITING IN AMERICA [To the Editor of THE SPECTATOR.]

Sgt,—Major Ross-Lewin says : " Like the United State3 enlisted men our soldiers are taught to salute the uniform rather than its wearer." Surely this is incorrect. I served for close on seventeen years in the ranks, and it was always impressed upon me that I saluted neither the man nor the uniform but the King'S Commission.—Yours faithfully,
