... Morgan's tapestry
ON MY WAY to the house of Morgan I called at J.P. Morgan's house — the som- bre midtown mansion, now a museum, where the great financier would do business amid his Florentine Madonnas and Guten- berg bibles. He had not, until now, impressed me as a humourist, but I liked the tapestry he chose for the wall. An opu- lent work of the 16th century, it depicts the Triumph of Avarice.
