Percival condemned . .

Sir: Shortly after reading Mr W. E. Arm- strong's letter (27 February) about General Percival, I heard the following story. When the news of the surrender of Singapore came through to Dublin, a certain Martin Corry — formerly a guerrilla of great ferocity and small intelligence, at that time a Fianna Fail member of the Dail — set off to send a telegram to the Japanese com- mander at Singapore urging him to 'kick the s . . . out of Percival like he did to us in Cork'. Corry was deterred, with some dif- ficulty, by de Valera.
