Professor Geoffrey Bernard Abbott FLETCHER, of Thirlmere Lodge, Elm- field Road, Gosforth, Tyne and Wear, Professor of Classics (1937-46) and then of Latin (1946-69) at King's College, Newcastle upon Tyne, who died on Feb. 8th last, aged 91, left estate valued at £1,587,005 gross, £1,579,091 net. He left to the University of Newcastle upon Tyne £6,000 towards the cost of provid- ing lectures to school children on Arts subjects, £5,000 for the benefit of classi- cal studies, more particularly Greek and Latin, together with certain of his books and pamphlets, a picture by W.L. Wyllie and a painting each by F. Goodall of French Peasant Children and by G. Chambers to the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne, his pictures by J. Stark and A. Vickers to the Castle Museum, Norwich, £5,000 to the PDSA, Head Office, and a further £3,000 to the PDSA, Newcastle upon Tyne, £5,000 each to the National Canine Defence League and Professional Classes Aid Council, £4,000 to the Distressed Gen- tlefolks Aid Association, £3,000 each to the Dog and Cat Shelter, Newcastle upon Tyne, the Literary and Philosophi- cal Society, Newcastle upon Tyne, RSPCA and Friends of the Poor and Gentlefolks Help, £2,000 each to the Society for the Promotion of Roman Studies and the Society for the Promo- tion of Hellenic Studies, and £1,000 each to the National Trust, Rugby School, King's College, Cambridge, Musicians Benevolent Fund, National Arts Collections Fund and RSPB.
