Sir: Mr Auberon Waugh suggests that we are educating too
many scientists. I would go further and suggest that we are giving higher edu- cation to too many people altogether.
Some of the 'rude mechanicals' who have been educated at vast public expense and who are now discontented would have done better to have left school at the age of fifteen and learnt some useful craft or trade.
