An Easter sermon
Sir: There is surely a great difference between lik- ing Christianity as history and believing its pro- positions to be true (Michael W. D. White's letter, 14 April). Unless, of course, the propositions are solely about facts, what did or did not happen on Easter Sunday, and not about what Jesus tried to teach. For the first time in history he linked duty to one's neighbour with duty towards God. His God was not Jehovah, but a paternal spirit who must be worshipped 'in truth.'
