A destructive and fatal fire happened about a quarter to
six o'clock this morning, at the house of Mr. John Fairey, civil engineer, No. 7 Guildford Street, Russell Square. Assistance was promptly rendered by the Firemen and Police; but the house was quite destroyed by seven o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Fairey, three maid-servants, and a boy, were saved with some difficulty. Three persons perished—William Robert- son, a lad, who could not be waked ; Charles Jenkins, a groom, who ventured to return too often in the attempt to save property ; and a Policeman, who was overwhelmed by some falling ruins. Another Po- liceman is missing, and is supposed to have perished.
