Have we met?
Sir: I fear that the 'Greatest Greek since Aristotle' may rightly be offended by Auberon Waugh's suggestion (Another voice, 7 December) that I once introduced him as a hotelier. Could this really be so? When I first met Taki a short time previ- ously, he was a playboy with remarkable ambitions to become a Hemingway (come to think of it, he hasn't done too badly since). As such I viewed him — and contin- ue to do so — with considerable admira- tion: but I certainly never had any idea that he might have been involved in anything quite so respectable as the hotel industry.
It seems rather more likely that I may have introduced Bron to him as being something in the wine trade.
