QUIET MARKETS.
TEE Stock Markets are showing some signs of lassitude 'as the apex of the holiday season approaches, while the specu- lative markets are still disturbed by the recent upheaval in Wall Street, and the rise in the New York Federal Reserve Rate. On the other hand, gilt-edged securities keep steady to firm on the further inflow of gold from abroad, while, during the last few days, a slightly better tone has been apparent in the English Railway Market.
