Great Day for Forbes
Sir: Mr Anthony Gilbey (Letters, 14 June) complains that Alastair Forbes always makes him cast the Spectator aside in exasperation. Allow me to inform you that I am someone who, when seeing the name of Alastair Forbes on your cover, opens the Spectator with an almost uncontrollable sense of pleasurable anticipation.
I can never understand why no publisher has sufficient flair and imagination to publish in book form the collected Specta- tor writings of Alastair Forbes, who is always so enjoyably outrageous. He is clearly a scholar of high-class gossip. I am happy to say he knows nothing about me. Robin Day
