The Green Prince
Sir: I was sorry to see the article by Giles Milton on Prince Philip and the Orthodox Church ('A prince among priests 14 March). Mr Milton has been in touch with me over the last few weeks, but as his arti- cle almost admits, I had told him that the visit to Istanbul to visit the Patriarch is at this stage a proposed one. May I reiterate this remains the situation.
The article is weak in that it tries to rep- resent Prince Philip's links with the Ortho- dox as some sort of conversion experience, arising from a desire to leave the Church of England. As I understand it Prince Philip's interest in the Orthodox Church is purely related to their response to the environ- mental crisis in his capacity as Internationa) President of the World Wide Fund for
'It's a late nomination for worst TV performance.'
Nature. I do not believe he is dissatisfied with the Church of England but he is on record as urging the Church of England to play a more forceful role in response to the environmental crisis. I would be grateful if this point could be brought to the attention of your readers.
