Reminiscences of an Indian Police Official. By Arthur Crawford, C.M.G.
(The Roxburghe Press. 7s. 6d.)—This is a second edition of a book, which first appeared about four years ago, giving a vivid and very interesting account of the seamy side of Indian life. The author relates his experiences of Indian crime with considerable force and graphic power, and shows more than ordinary skill as a teller of stories. Apart from its literary value, the book is extremely interesting on account of the side-lights which it throws upon certain little-known phases of native life and character. Like Mr. Crawford's other work, "Our Troubles in Poona and the Deccan," it has been admirably illustrated by Mr. Horace van Ruith, and deserves to be strongly recommended to all who are interested in our Indian Government.
