Luddites?

§IR,—In speeches on the need to modernise Britain, the Prime Minister is fond of inveighing against the `Luddite' mentality. It is reported that railwaymen now threaten go-slow tactics or strike action if Dr. Beeching's new liner trains to speed up goods traffic on the nationalised railways arc introduced. Is this attitude of railwaymen (now seeking yet another pay rise) consonant with Labour's intention to modernise Britain, or is this a 'Luddite' mentality? Doubtless Mr. Wilson (or Mr. , George Brown) will in due

course tell them. •
