Small benefit in Chile

Sir: Christopher Fildes (City & suburban, 12 September) recommended Minister Peter Lilley to consult his opposite number in Chile as to how to privatise old age pen- sions.

Indeed, Chile's system is working; it is only one of the many benefits this country received from General Augusto Pinochet's inspired programme to bring Chile out of the chaos caused by many years of political disorder and three of Marxist anarchy.
