The discussions to which Prince George's engagement have given rise
regarding the succession. to the throne have not always been based on knowledge. So long as the Duke of York's daughters survive they take precedence over any son that may • be born to Prince George. But if a son should be born to the Duke of York he would take precedence over Princess. Elizabeth and her sister. If a daughter should be born to the Prince of Wales she would take precedence over any child, male or female, of any of the Prince's brothers.. Finally, if the Prince of Wales had first a daughter and then a son the son would be the heir-presumptive—a position which Princess Elizabeth holds today.
