Good publicity
Sir: It is not clear that Bruce Anderson (Politics, 14 September) or Stephen Glover (Media studies, 14 September) have known Robert Runcie or have read Humphrey Carpenter's book.
It is wrong to take exception to the Times for publishing selections from a book or to the author for finding an open and interest- ing way to offer information and insights about the life and religion of an exceptional man.
I do not know how much it matters that one of the most open Church leaders was apparently too elusive for even the serious newspapers to describe during his service at Canterbury or that the fuss about the new biography fails to illustrate the worth of the book.
I do believe that more people of quality will consider ordination when they read about-life in the Church of England.
