No way to save hunting
From Dr Chris Nancollas Sir: When is a democracy not a democracy? When it passes a law you don't agree with, according to Simon Heffer (`Good people are ready to break the law', 14 September). If he and his chums want to take to the streets, good luck to them, but they should remember three things. The first is that public support will evaporate as soon as the first person gets hurt. Secondly, no government can ever allow a group like this to win. Third, violent, illegal action often leads to the destruction of the very thing you are trying to protect. Look what happened to the mining communities after the miners' strike. Quite frankly, a ten-year-old could spin against a protest like this, and what the likes of Blair and Campbell could do hardly bears thinking about. There must be a better way.
