Mr. G. Stewart, a firm and able Reformer, and one whose family con- flexion gives him an additional claim on the county, will, it is under- derstood, stand on the Liberal interest as a candidate for the vacancy occasioned in the representation of the county of Perth by the succes- sion to the Peerage of Lord Stormont, as the eldest sort of the late Lord Mansfield. We cordially wish Mr. Stewart success in his effiarts to re- move from Perthshire the blot of being represented in Parliament by a Tory ; and hope the spirit which sent Sir G. Murray packing will be again aroused.—Globe. [It would be difficult to arouse that spirit.]
Major James Anderson, of Havering Grange, Essex, a Conserva- tive, has declared himself a candidate for the Lanark district of burghs, at the next election.
The Earl of Glasgow is reported to be dangerously ill, and unlikely to live. In the event of his death, a vacancy will of course occur in the representation of Ayrshire, as Lord Kel urns will succeed to the Eng- lish barony of Ross. It is also rumoured that the Honourable W. Howard is about to resign his scat for Sutherland, and will be suc- ceeded by a Liberal.—Seotsman.
