IF you are travelling in England Ashley Courtenay's guide to some 700 British hotels, Let's Halt Awhile (Collins; 9s. 6d.), is, if used with caution, a useful addition to the front pocket of the car, for he has actually been to the hotels he mentions and has left his mark on them to the extent that, as he puts it, 'both hoteliers and their staff like to try and give just that little extra bit of service to Ashley Courtenay clients.'
