Land nationalisation
From Councillor John Heddle Sir: Almost ten years ago to the day (Friday, February 12, 1965) the late Richard Crossman wrote in his diary, "Of course the land commission as envisaged is sheer nonsense, as a non-starter, because it is impossible to create a monopoly purchaser as was planned. And directly one gives up the monopoly purchaser and introduces betterment tax to deal with the two-tier price system, all the advantages disappear „ . the land commission will increase prices not reduce them, and hinder our housing policy not help it." What do the present Government's land nationalisation proposals do if they do not encourage the creation of a 'monopoly purchaser'?
When will they ever learn? John Heddle Members' Room, County Hall, Maidstone, Kent
