" We need only here say that it has given us sincere pleasure to see it an- nounced, as from authority, that he is to be the successor of Mr. Justice Bosanquet. Sir Robert Peel, in looking round his own party, would indeed be acting a fatuous part, were he to allow personal claims to overrule profes- sional character and fitness, in appointments of such high importance as the one alluded to. Still it is a satisfaction to perceive that, in this instance at least, the Bench is not to be degraded into a house of refuge for mere poli- tical partisans or family relations.'
